Vernon is a clinical psychologist in private practice and former member of the Discipline of Psychology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal where he taught the next generation of psychologists and supervised their research. He is an Honorary Research Fellow of the School of Health Science at UKZN. Vernon has extensive experience, spanning thirty years, in designing and facilitating change and development processes with individuals, couples and organizations. His focus areas include the social dimensions of HIV and Aids, bioethics, and public health generally. He was worked on and developed mentorship programs for professional development and Clinical Systems Mentorship for health system strengthening. He has assisted local, national and international organizations and programs to evaluate their programs, develop strategic plans and white papers, manage conflict, and set research priorities. Humor, intensive pre-planning, participative methodologies and straight respectful talk characterize his facilitation approach.
