Dr Mariet J Eksteen (PhD Health Professions Education) is the Professional Development Officer at the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) and currently also an executive committee member of the Academic Pharmacy Section of FIP. Previously, Mariet worked as a community service pharmacist in a public hospital pharmacy, as a registered pharmacist in an independent community pharmacy and as a senior lecturer at the North-West University’s School of Pharmacy. Mariet’s research interest lies in teaching-learning within a Health Professions Education (HPE) framework in order to ensure that competent graduates enter the workplace. Mariet’s involvement in organised pharmacy and the PSSA allow her to be closely involved in the new developments regarding Universal Health Coverage and the anticipated changes in South Africa’s healthcare system. Mariet is passionate about pharmacy and enjoys both national and international involvement in the profession.
