On behalf of the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) and the organising committee, it is a pleasure to invite you to the 2nd National Pharmacy conference to be held on 21-24 October 2016, Durban ICC, South Africa.

In 2013, the first National Pharmacy conference was held in Sun City which was the biggest conference in the history of the pharmacy profession in South Africa. This conference boasted top national and international speakers and was attended by over 700 delegates. Important topics in the pharmacy sphere were discussed in ensuring that pharmacy is recognised and counted as an integral part in addressing the healthcare needs of the people of South Africa. The who's who in the pharmacy profession attended this conference and history was indeed made in 2013.

Preparations for the 2016 Conference are already under way, presenting another opportunity to gather all the sectors of pharmacy (i.e. community, institutional, wholesale, manufacturing, academia, consultant, etc.) to come together to tackle, debate and attempt to resolve issues that are common to all in pharmacy and to reflect on the recommendations that were made in 2013.  Some of the focus areas of the conference will include enhancement of the professional image of pharmacy, policy and service delivery issues in healthcare and the opportunities for pharmacy in the future healthcare system. 'I urge you, colleagues, to play an active and effective role in the supply of medicines and pharmaceutical care to all communities in South Africa. We should strive to differentiate our profession from other healthcare professions as the most suitably trained custodians of pharmaceuticals. This will support a meaningful role for pharmacists in the national health coverage plan', says the President of Council, Prof Mano Chetty.

Additionally, the SAPC will once again be giving awards to honour pharmacists, pharmacy support personnel and pharmacy facilities in various categories for pharmacy excellence.  The awards will be given in a glamorous gala dinner which will be attended by important dignitaries.
